Objective To evaluate the effect of heart rate(HR) orientated aerobic exercise training on arterial stiffness in patients with metabolic syndrome. Methods One hundred and twenty six subjects with metabolic syndrome were randomly selected. The anthropometric parameters, blood pressure (BP),laboratory parameters, arterial wall function and structural parameters were collected before and after 8 weeks of supervisory training.42 patients matched with age and sex were taken as control group. Results In the study group,HR directional training reduced aortic pulse wave velocity [(8.35±1.39)m/s vs.(7.83±0.94) m/s,P=0.014),heart rate (P<0.001),systolic pressure (P<0.001),diastolic pressure (P=0.002),waist circumference (P=0.002),total cholesterol[(6.47±1.41)mmol/L vs.(5.97±1.35) mmol/L,P<0.001),and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).Alcohol [(5.60±1.14)mmol/L vs.(5.39±1.18) mmol/L,P=0.041) was related, and aerobic exercise ability increased (P<0.001).There was no significant difference in arterial stiffness parameters between the control group and the control group.Multivariate analysis showed that the decrease of arterial stiffness was related to blood pressure. Conclusion Heart rate targeting exercise training is associated with reduced blood pressure-dependent aortic stiffness and improve metabolic and health parameters in patients with metabolic syndrome.
